The box is made of wood with leather covering, metal decorative mounts and a gold painted or gilded finish. The box has a lock (no key is present). The box is open and it has a red cloth lined interior. The box has a hinged top. The item is old. The item is from an estate liquidation (see photos). The box measures in total about 6 inches high, it s about 5.5 inches from the front edge to the back side and it is about 10 inches wide from side to side.
