Although they are built to professional standards, they can be expected to require maintenance at this age. The original white Lithium grease lubricant on the scanning stage rails and the drive gears of the two stepper motors dries to the consistency of tar and accumulates dust. This sticky amalgam often limits, slows, or prevents movement of the scanning stage and focusing mechanism. Evaporated grease film and dust accumulation on the reflex mirror degrades the image.
