Item description

A true outsider folk artist, Paul Nickle 1948-2008, was born in Newark and lived most of his life in Roosevelt, NJ. His artistic pursuit started in the 1980s when he began imitating various modernist styles, painting on old materials and passing the works off as old. His career as an art forger ended when he confessed to the collectors that had purchased the fakes that he was in fact the author. Instead of being angry they encouraged him to continue, as the work had unquestionable merit in its own right. I agree. He never divulged why he signed his works โ€œWelsh" All of Paul's paintings are wild and this one is no exception, including that he used a slightly warped frame to add to the exotic viewpoint. It appears the viewer is looking at a musem gallery from the ceiling! He uses vivid colors and free-flowing impasto. If you are a free spirit with a penchant for the weird and eccentric, this painting is for you. Oil on canvas 16" x 20". Outside dimensions of frame are 20" x 24" Excellent estate condition. Authenticity guaranteed. FREE SHIPPING
