The single grey, suede covered boot is a historic Simpson Fire Protection Boot worn by NHRA driver John Force during the 1992 NHRA Nationals at Memphis, Tennessee. This grey fire protection boot was worn by Force during the now infamous showdown with driver Al Hoffman when his engine blew up, sending him vearing across the straight away in a nitro-fueled blaze as the chassis of his dragster disintegrated in front of a horrified crew and crowd. Some may remember this event which inspired his immortal ?I saw Elvis at 1,000 feet? quote. Incredibly, after swerving off the track, and tumbling through the eathen sidelines, kicking up dirt that put out the flames, Force emerged from the smoke bombed wreckage and walked away, making it a unique and collectible item for fans of NHRA racing. The boot is a single piece and is not meant for wearing, serving as a souvenir from a death-defying feat from John Force's decades long and storied racing career. The old footage is still available on YouTube where, despite the old footage, you can see him wearing his fire safety boots as he climbs from the wreckage of his car.
