Black Mulberry (Morus nigra) - 50 Seeds

American Grown Seeds
Height: Up to 15m
USDA Zones: 4-10
Description:
Looking for a delicious and easy-to-grow fruit to enhance your garden? The Black Mulberry is your perfect choice! This self-fertile variety is beginner-friendly and thrives in a range of soil types, ensuring you can enjoy a bountiful harvest no matter where you plant it. The sweet, juicy fruits are perfect for making jam or can be left for birds to enjoy, adding life to your garden!
Planting Instructions:
Soil Preference: Black Mulberry trees are fast growers that adapt well to various soil types, including clay, loam, or sandy soilโwhether alkaline or acidic. They prefer full sun but can tolerate partial shade, although not as much as the native red mulberry.
Dormancy Stratification: Mulberry seeds are dormant and require cold treatment for germination. You can soak the seeds and plant them in the fall just beneath the soil surface, allowing winter conditions to naturally break dormancy for spring germination.
Cold Stratification (for other planting times): If planting at other times of the year, mimic winter by stratifying the seeds for 60 days. After stratification, sow the seeds just below the soil surface.
Temperature Management: Maintain soil moisture without saturation. Keep seeds at approximately 86F during the day for 8 hours and 70F at night for 16 hours. A heating grow mat can help achieve this.
Seedling Care: Once seedlings sprout, transplant them into individual pots (4" or larger), taking care not to damage roots. If frost is still a concern, use a grow light and heating mat; otherwise, move pots outdoors to a sunny spot.
Transplanting: After one year, your seedlings will be ready for their permanent location in the garden.
