Leo Politi JUANITA Caldecott Medal Runner-up first edition, Later printing 1948 This product data sheet is originally written in English. Juanita by Leo Politi New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, (1948). First edition, LATER printing (no "A" on the title-page). Very good plus: Book has minor shelf wear; pages have a hint of age-toning, and are otherwise tight, clean and intact. In a dust jacket with chipping to spine ends, moderate chipping to upper fore-edge corners, and wear along spine edges and fore-edges. The Caldecott Medal runner-up for 1949 and third book by Italian-American artist and author Atiglio Leoni Politi, popularly known as Leo Politi (1908-1996). Juanita had a special fifth birthday party, where she received a rose-colored dress her mother made and a white dove from her father. Then, later in the spring, on the Saturday before Easter, everyone in the Olvera Street neighborhood made a procession to the Old Mission Church with their animals to get them blessed by the Padre. Has both multicolored and monochromatic illustrations by the author. Medium and dark gray cloth boards with red stamped title on front, medium blue binding on spine having red stamped titles, European style. Large octavo; size is 8-3/8" by 10-3/8".
