Item description

20inch x 30inch Poster Leonetto Cappiello (9. April 1875 in Livorno, Italy ?? 2. February 1942 in Cannes, France) was an Italian poster art designer who lived in Paris. He is now often called 'the father of modern advertising' because of his innovation in poster design. By the time this wild, swirling automobile poster was printed in 1906, Leonetto Cappiello had already taken Paris by storm. In six short years, Cappiello had nearly 120 posters under his belt, many of them classics. The artist had recast the poster world of Cheret, Lautrec and Mucha into his own world of shocking characters and unforgettable metaphors. In this explosive image, the volume is turned up all the way, with unprecedented kaleidoscopic color conveying the rush of hurtling down an open road. It was impossible to miss this firestorm of a poster on the boulevards, and even today its unrestrained palette makes it stand out in Cappiello's oeuvre. Brasier was a French automobile manufacturer, based in the Paris conurbation, and active between 1905 and 1930 There is a border around the image. The image size is correct.
