Item description
The Judas Trees name is Derived from the Belief that Judas Iscariot Hanged Himself from this Tree Species after he Betrayed Jesus. (It has Other Common Names with More Cheerful Connotations Including the Love Tree and the Mediterranean Redbud.) The Flowers of the Judas Tree Grow on the Trunk Limbs to Develop into Flattened, Purple-Tinted, Peapod-Like Structures that Persist into Late Summer. The Judas Tree Grows up to 15-25 Foot Tall, and Wide. Easily grown in average, medium moisture, well-drained soils in full sun to part shade. Plants perform best in moderately fertile soils with regular and consistent moisture. Avoid wet or poorly drained soils. Since this tree does not transplant well, it should be planted when young and left undisturbed.
Zones 4-9
Judas Tree Germination:
1) Rub seeds with rough grit sandpaper to scarify. Soak in Very Hot water for 24hrs.
2) Cold stratify by placing seeds in a zip lock bag filled with moist peat moss or vermiculite for 60 days. Leave 1 inch of the corner open for air circulation. Periodically check to ensure they don't dry out. Mist with a spray bottle as to not over wet them.
3) Plant seeds in a well draining seed starting mix. Plant near a window with filtered light, or use a grow lamp. Do not expose to full sun.
4) Use a heated propagator mat to keep the soil at 75 degrees.
5) Expect germination within 2-3 weeks.
