It is also a currency that can be exchanged by consumers in many parts of the world. The origin of the name "shekel" (???) is from the ancient biblical currency by the same name. Shekel is any of several ancient units of weight or of currency in ancient Israel. The new 10 shekel coin has been in use in Israel since 1995. Features ? Composition: Center: Bronze Ring: Nickel bonded steel ? Edge: Reeded ? Obverse: Palm tree with seven leaves and two baskets with dates, the state emblem, the words "for the redemption of Zion" in ancient and modern Hebrew alphabet. ? Reverse: value, date, "Israel" in Hebrew, Arabic and English. Please note: actual coin's issue date may vary from picture. ? The coin weighs 7 grams, 23 mm in diameter, 2.2 mm thickness. /
