A collection of antique and vintage photographs, and ephemera pertaining to Henry Beatty (1887-1969), his second wife Gertrude Orr (1891-1969), his parents Lucian Theophilus Beatty and Anna Willis Howze, and Gladys Beatty Miller and Dorothy Miller who we believe are the daughters of Henry. Included in this collection is a trimmed antique cabinet photograph of Henry Beatty dated circa 1914 in his North Carolina Military Institute uniform, aka Carolina Military Institute (hence the C.M.I. embroidered on his collar); an obituary of his father Lucian T. Beatty, a former Confederate soldier, from the "Bladen Journal" of Bladen, NC; an original page from the "Family Register" which has genealogical entries as shown in our images; another newspaper clipping announcing Henry's re-election campaign to the Tomahawk Board of Education; a snapshot of Dorothy and Gladys Beatty Miller who are probably the daughters of Henry as indicated by writing on the back of the photo which in addition to their names reads "at Gravelly Hill, N.C. about 1928." Henry was said to live "on the site of the old homestead Gravelly Hill" in his father's obituary; a newspaper clipping announcing the wedding of Henry and his wife Gertrude Orr; an award of merit to Mrs. Henry Beatty from the North Carolina State Agriculture and Engineering Extension Service dated November 9, 1928; a newspaper clipping announcing funeral services for Gertrude's father Dr. F.B. Orr; a Polaroid photograph of Dr.Orr at his home along with another Polaroid photo taken from the deck of his home. In addition (not shown) we are including one snapshot (dated 1959 of of an unknown Betty and Minnie) and three school portraits (not identified, circa 1960s) which were part of this collection and are likely to be descendants or relatives of Henry. Condition: These are original photos and paper items, not copies or reproductions. They are in very good condition. Family Genealogy: Lucian Theophilus Beatty was born May 13, 1833. He and his two brothers George Hays Beatty and William Henry Gore Beatty were all three Confederate Soldiers, born at Gravelly Hill in Lake Creek Township, North Carolina (birthplace also stated as Bladen, NC). They were the sons of John Day Beatty (1798-1849) and Jane Smith Hunter Holmes (1802-1875) who had a total of 11 children. Lucian died on March 3, 1899 in Bladen, NC. He was married to Anna Willis Howze on February 12, 1880. She was the daughter of Benjamin T. Howze and Margaret Holmes whose father was Hardy Lucian Holmes, son of Governor Gabriel Holmes. Lucian and Anna had three children including Marianna Beatty (born April 18, 1882 and "disappeared about 1909" according to family report), Henry Beatty (1887-1969) and Margaret Hunter Beatty (1891-1950). Margaret was born February 15, 1891 in Bladen, North Carolina and died January 12, 1950 in Charleston, West Virginia. She was married to Norman James Herring (1888-1973) on September 3, 1913 in Raleigh, West Virginia. Their children included Rachel Beatty Herring, James Hunter Herring, Elizabeth Herring, Captain Henry Howze Herring, and Margaret Holmes Herring. Henry Beatty was born November 11, 1887 in Bladen NC and died December 3, 1969 in Durham, NC. He was married to Mary Lou McCullen (1888-1919) on June 21, 1917 in Burgaw, NC and a second wife Gertrude Orr (1891-1974) on August 3, 1922 in Currie Pender, NC. A handwritten family sheet seems to indicate Henry, who was a cadet with the North Carolina Military Institute, may have had two daughters named Gladys Beatty Miller and Dorothy Beatty. Comments: Our inventory includes photos and paper items pertaining to various Beatty family members which have been listed and are being sold separately. They include Lucian Theophilus Beatty, his wife Anna Willis Howze, Marianna Beatty, Henry Beatty, Gertrude Orr Beatty, Gladys Beatty Miller, Dorothy Beatty, Margaret Hunter Beatty Herring and her husband Norman James Herring. We will also be including additional photocopied online genealogical information with purchase.
