Item description
Vintage original 27x41 in. US one-sheet poster from the 1970's comedy crime film, HARRY AND WALTER GO TO NEW YORK, released in 1976 by Columbia Pictures and directed by Mark Rydell. Two hopelessly-out-of-their-class conmen (James Caan, Elliott Gould) attempt to pull off
the largest bank heist of the nineteenth century. They gain the enmity of the
most famous bank robber in the world (Michael Caine), and the affection of a crusading
newspaperwoman (Diane Keaton).
This vintage original poster boasts great artwork depicting the film's major characters in period attire. Unrestored and folded as originally issued, it is in very fine condition without any pinholes, tears, stains, or other flaws.
Adam Worth was a real person and one of the most notorious
criminals of the nineteenth century. It has been suggested that he may have
been the inspiration for the character of "Professor Moriarty" in the
Sherlock Holmes stories. Some of the New York City scenes were filmed on the
Hello, Dolly! (1969) set that was still standing on the Twentieth Century-Fox
backlot. This movie went massively over-budget and caused such a major cash
crisis that Columbia Pictures nearly went out of business, until a fund of
German dentists, Cinerenta, agreed to help co-finance the studio's other
movies. After disastrous previews, Columbia Pictures
heavily cut the movie down and director Mark Rydell claimed most of the
jokes were the main victims.
