Produced at the outbreak of the American Revolution, this map shows one of the most iconic American cities in a period of significant transformation as a cultural, political, and economic hub as the Revolutionary Forces began to battle the British Army in what would become one of the most studied revolutions in history. Boston remained the most populous city in the United States until Philadelphia outgrew it in the mid-eighteenth century, and its influence on American culture cannot be underestimated. The city was home to many of the most well-known founding fathers, including Benjamin Franklin, and the city and surrounding region were home to many of the most crucial moments of the conflict.
Due to its vast waterfront, Boston was, and remains, home to a busy port supporting international trade and commercial fishing industries. Boston developed a distinct culture as immigrants from across Western Europe, particularly Ireland and Italy, arrived and established neighborhoods and communities based on shared traditions and religious beliefs, many of which exist to this day. The city is home to numerous historic buildings and brings hundreds of thousands of tourists. In the years leading up to the American Revolution, many actions were centered around Boston that would lead to the colonial uprising.
This map bears a distinctive aesthetic and unique style that is immediately recognizable and transports the viewer back in time, creating an indelible bond between the past and present. This is an authentic piece of American cartographical history.
