This is a black, felt box with gold sides housing 2 decks of cards, one blue and one black that reads: GREAT NORTHERN RAILWAY PRESIDENT'S AWAY For Outstanding Achievement in Employee Safety 1965. Signed by the president at that time. The GREAT NORTHERN RAILWAY (GN), Home to Rocky, the Mountain Goat, running from Saint Paul, Minnesota to Seattle, Washington ( 1700 mi) was the creation of the 19th century railroad tycoon, JAMES J. HILL.This is by far his greatest masterpiece earning thim the legendary nickname of "Empire Builder." It was completed on Jan. 6, 1893 at Scenic, Washington. It was the only privately funded and successfully built, transcontinental railroad in the United States history. Today, AMTRAK's Empire Builder uses the line, running mostly on ex-GN trackage.
