This large framed 1969, 16x 26 historical California piece was presented to then Senator Robert Beverly for his contribution to Assembly Bill No 1700, creating the CALIFORNIA INSURANCE HOLDING COMPANY SYSTEM REGULATORY ACT on the occasion of the signing of the bill by then Governor, Ronald Reagan. There is also a photo of the occasion, with not only Governor Reagan and Senator Beverly, but several prominent Insurance executives, all of which are listed on Senator Beverly's Stationary. Senator Beverly is to the left of Governor Reagan in the photo, standing on the left. Senator Beverly passed away in Manhattan Beach California in 2009, was a Marine, and served as Mayor of Manhattan Beach as well.
The framed bill, as you can see was opened and the page with the actual signatures is displayed below the photo. There are also several other actual signatures by:
The Speaker of the California Assembly, Bob Monagan, January 1969?September 1970
President of the California Senate, Howard Way, 1969-1970: President pro Tempore
Chief Clerk of the California Assembly, believed to be, James Driscall
Secretary of the California Senate, C.D. Alexander
and the Private Secretary of Governor Reagan
Early Signatures of Governor Reagan are rare and paired with the legislative history of the piece and the other signatures, makes this a fascinating piece to display.
