Max (Matthau) and John (Lemmon) are back at each other's throats, but with John happily married to Ariel (Ann-Margret), he's not much of an advesary. Enter Maria (Sophia Loren), who wants to turn the boy's favorite bait shop into an Italian resturant in a twist that should surprise no one. Max soon falls for the beautiful Maria, and she with him. The jokes are similar but more adolescent than in the first, and subplots involving Max and John's kids' wedding and grandpa's romantic interests are a bit farfetched.
