Item description

Ex-library, properly deacessioned, with expected labels, tags, marks and pasted downs. No jacket as issued, no DJ as issued. Deaccessioned, as it happens, from the only library in WorldCat said to possess the book. Corners worn. We found only one other copy offered online. Perhaps one of the reasons it is so scarce is that the "ISBN" is not valid. Fred James ?Catfish? Jackson was left fatherless when his biological father denied him and his mother, frail and heartbroken, took him on a roller coaster ride of child abuse, neglect and homelessness which landed her in the North Carolina Correction Center for Women and young Fred in a foster home. His mother died at age 36 from alcohol abuse and poor health. Fred was released to his grandparents and a grandfather who really didn?t want another mouth to feed. A stay that was short lived and again young Fred was homeless at age 14. Jackson went on to graduate from the University of San Diego and the Harvard University Graduate School of Education. Mr. Jackson then taught for many year and is now one of America?s most highly sought after high octane motivational speakers. He is dynamic, inspiring and charismatic. Mr. Jackson is no stranger to authorship; he is a three time Pulitzer Prize nominee, a Coretta Scott King Book Award nominee (2007), Newbery Medal and the Caldecott Medal nominee (2007). ?Catfish? Jackson, has penned such books as One Race Many Cultures, They Call Me Names and the CATFISH AND JABO children?s book series, featuring Homework, Lightning Thumps Again, and the newly released Priceless Pearls, a tribute to the writers and musicians of the Harlem Renaissance period.
