Item description

THE FIGHT FOR THE WHITE HOUSE by Frank K. Kelly Thomas Y. Crowell Co., 1961 First Edition Condition: Very Good++ in VG- dj How do today's Presidential campaigns differ from those of a century ago? This is a well-documented but very readable account of one of the most interesting campaigns for the U.S. Presidency. The candidates: the man who had been President, Theodore Roosevelt; the man who was President, William Howard Taft, and the man who would be President, Woodrow Wilson. The year was 1912, and the people wanted a man who could lead them effectively in fast-changing times. The endpapers display a montage of photos and political cartoons of the candidates. The author, Frank K. Kelly, was an author and journalist, a political speechwriter and holder of several executive positions; at the time this book was published, he was vice president of The Fund For the Republic. He has signed and inscribed the book on the half-title page and even included his business card. The lower cover corners are bumped, but otherwise the book is very nice with a firm binding and mostly white pages. The jacket has corner and spine end wear and some other modest general wear. This is the first printing (Crowell only stated subsequent printings) and, with the author's signature, this copy is quite scarce.
