Worn and frayed shelf edges, stains and discoloration to the covers and spine, endpapers tanned with aged cello-tape to the half-title page, and two former owner's signatures; no dust jacket. Octavo. 258 pages. Black-and-white photographs. THIS COPY HAS THE SIGNATURES OF FIVE VETERAN BALLPLAYERS FROM THE PAST ON THE HALF-TITLE PAGE: H. RUEL ALLEN GETTEL BOB LEMON ELBIE FLETCHER DON BLACK The former owner has placed cello-tape over each signature to "protect" them. The tape has yellowed over time. All information from wikipedia: Herold Dominic "Muddy" Ruel (1896-1963) was a professional baseball player, coach, manager and general manager. He played as a catcher in Major League Baseball for 19 seasons with the St. Louis Browns, New York Yankees, Washington Senators, Boston Red Sox, Detroit Tigers, and the Chicago White Sox. Ruel was one of the top defensive catchers of his era, and is notable for scoring the winning run for the Washington Senators in Game 7 of the1924 World Series and, for being the battery-mate of Walter Johnson. Allen Jones "Al" "Two Gun" Gettel (1917-2005) was a Major League Baseball pitcher who played from 1945 to 1955 with several teams. He batted and threw right-handed. Gettel had a 38–45 record in 184 career games. Robert Granville Lemon (1920-2000) was an American right-handed pitcher and manager in Major League Baseball. Lemon was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame as a player in 1976. Elburt Preston Fletcher (1916-1994) was a professional baseball first baseman. He played all or part of 12 seasons in Major League Baseball for the Boston Braves (1934–35) and Bees (1937–39), Pittsburgh Pirates (1939–43, 1946–47) and Braves again (1949). Donald Paul Black (1917-1959) was an American right-handed pitcher in MLB who played for six seasons in the American League with the Philadelphia Athletics and Cleveland Indians In 154 career games, Black pitched 797 innings and posted a win-loss record of 34–55, with 37 complete games, four shutouts, and a 4.35 (ERA).
