How to Care for Eastern Red Cedar Remove any branches that grow on the ground or any that grow beside the main trunk. Trim during winter or spring months. Take care not to trim more than 1/4 of the tree in one season. Fertilize in early spring and late summer with general 10-10-10 all purpose fertilizer. Do not over water.
