Item description
Exposition Addressed to the Chamber of Deputies of the Congress of the Union by Senor Don Carlos Antonio Carillo, Deputy for Alta California Concerning the Regulation and Administration of the Pious Fund
This book is fine with paper label on the spine and with its original dust jacket which is about in fine condition.
Hard cover book of 15 hand-printed pages. This is just a wonderful book, and is a joy to hold in the hands. This book was edited and translated by Herbert Ingram Priestly. Art work by William F. Rauschnabel. The book was published by John Henry Nash in San Francisco Limited edition
of only 650 copies printed on Van Gelder hand-made paper in February 1938.
This book is a translation of the rare pamphlet dated Sept. 15, 1831 in the collection of the Bancroft Library at the University of California. This fund was created in 1697 and provided capital to support the missions in New Spain later received by the Mexican government following their independence. The fund was seized by President Santa Ana in 1836.
The book is quarter dark green cloth with green paper boards. White paper spine label with black lettering and ruled borders. Black-and-white decorative headpieces at the chapter heading tops. Beautiful textured Van Gelder hand-made paper with deckled edges. The book is a large quarto size (11" by 7.75"). The pagination as follows - [i-iv] v-xx [1-2] 3-15 [1 colophon]. As stated this one of 650 copies.
The dust jacket is textured forest green paper with texture with a hand-printed letterset title "Carrillo On The Pious Fund" stamped on it at the top of the spine. There is a 1/4 inch closed tear at the top (with miniscule wear, see the photo, please) of the spine jacket and an 1/8 inch closed tear at the bottom of the jacket spine. There is no fading to the edges of the book, nor the jacket. If not for these minor things, the jacket would be fine.
Shipping cost includes tracking, insurance and safe packaging. We do our best by trying to send out all orders by the next day or the same day as payment received.
