Item description
Ex-library (William's College) properly de-accessioned. Bookplate, on the front pastedown, pencil marks on the front free end page, library perforations on the title page and call number inked to the spine. Tips, edges rubbed. Bright gilt. Spine sunned.
Towards the end of the flatback era, the floral gilt decorations on the spine and front boards became too costly to continue and a replacement was used. The shield cartouche replaced the florals in this 2nd format, in a return to real gold in the titles and decorations
