Item description

Elizabeth Ann Seton Painting This portrait of St Elizabeth Ann Seton was painted in acrylics on archival cotton rag board. She is in a cabin in winter, symbolizing the hardships she endured for her Lord and the vocation He called her to live out. It would be a bleak picture indeed if not for the warm colors of dawn. Elizabeth was responsible for the dawn of Catholic schools and a new religious order in this country. What a gift she was to the USA!Elizabeth Ann Bayley Seton, S.C., (August 28, 1774 ? January 4, 1821) was the first native-born citizen[1] of the United States to be canonized by the Roman Catholic Church (September 14, 1975).[2] She established the first Catholic girls' school in the nation in Emmitsburg, Maryland, where she also founded the first American congregation of religious sisters, the Sisters of Charity.
