I believe this set is and likely German. This is a pre McKinley Tariff of 1891 set which is why it is not marked. The 1891 McKinley trade tariff was the first federal legislation that mandated pottery/porcelain coming in to the United States had to be marked as to country of origin. The only mark on any piece is a number hand painted 58 on the back of a small plate. This set will have to be hand washed and can not go in a dishwasher. The condition is very good no chips, no cracks, some wear to the high points of the painting mostly the gold in the butterfly?s. The gold rims have slight but even wear.
