Item description
OUTDOOR PAINTING
James Fletcher-Watson R.I., R.B.A., one of the leading watercolour landscape painters in the UK, started painting at a very young age, exhibiting first at the age of twenty. Since that time his subject matter has been vast and covered many countries. In this film he not only shows us how versatile the watercolour medium can be and how to capture freshness and immediacy by painting out of doors, but also introduces us to some of his favourite landscape scenery in the UK. Starting on the north coast of Norfolk James paints a scene depicting the wide open skies and flat landscape of Morston Quay.
As a contrast he then paints a view of the glorious mountains and valleys of the Lake District - a wonderful example of aerial perspective. Finally, to the Yorkshire Dales where James paints Castle Bolton, a strong architectural subject, and the bridge at Hubberholme with its clear stream and autumn coloured trees.
A book of the same title is available from the publisher B.T. Batsford. Exploring different locations all over the world and illustrated in colour throughout, it is an in-depth and practical analysis of watercolour painting:
James Fletcher-Watson is a member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours and the Royal Society of British Artists. He exhibits widely in Britain, France, Australia and the United States.
