Item description

“Cracow in Watercolors by Krzysztof Ludwin. Signed by Author Artist. 78 pages Watercolor is a very difficult painting technique. Extremely rich in possibilities arising from its greatest advantage: the transparency of paints not covering the underpainting, regardless of its type: silk, canvas, and finally a variety of watercolor papers, smooth, textured – rough, white, creamy, with visible and invisible cotton fiber. The technique of painting with watercolors can be enriched with various formal means: sand grains or salt thrown onto wet paper, masking fluid, scraping off paint, rinsing paint with a brush, or, as Emil Nolde did – allowing raindrops or snowflakes to fall on the watercolor while painting, or using a feather and ink to emphasize the architecture. I was particularly enchanted by Krzysztof Ludwin’s watercolors praising the beauty of Krakow, not only its flagship monuments but also the forgotten nooks of old Kazimierz, and importantly, poetically described by Ludwin…” (Zbigniew Kazimierz Witek,President of the Society of Friends of Fine Arts in Krakow Krakow, August 2022) Krzysztof Ludwin was born in 1962 in Krakow – a Polish painter, watercolorist, architect, and academic lecturer (Ph.D. Eng. Arch., Prof. PK). From 1981 to 1987, he studied architecture at the Faculty of Architecture at the Krakow University of Technology, and then from 1987 to 1988 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow at the Faculty of Industrial Forms. From 1995 to 2006, he was a scientific and didactic assistant at the Krakow University of Technology in the Department of Drawing, Painting, and Sculpture. From 2004 to 2005, he also taught freehand drawing at the Faculty of Industrial Forms of the Krakow Academy of Fine Arts. In 2006, Krzysztof Ludwin obtained a doctoral degree, defending his thesis entitled “Architectural Sketches in Watercolor Techniques. Hi tory and Contemporary Times.” From 2006 to 2017, he conducted architectural design classes at the Institute of Architectural Design at the Faculty of Architecture of PK. From 2018 to 2022, he conducted didactic classes in the Department of Drawing, Painting, and Sculpture as a university professor. In 2002, the artist released the album “Kraków in Watercolors” from the series “The World in Watercolor.” His textbook “Learning Watercolor Painting” from the “Park Education” series (PWN School Publishing House, Warsaw – Bielsko-Bia?a, 2011) was published by PWN.
