Six singles were released from the album. Hurting Each Other, was the first single, it reached No. 2, becoming the Carpenters' sixth straight gold single. It was followed by a cover of Carole King's It's Going to Take Some Time followed (No. 12 Hot 100), Goodbye to Love (No. 7, Hot 100), some easy-listening radio stations refused to play the song because of a fuzz guitar solo by Tony Peluso. The song had a significant impact on the power-ballad. The album also included the Carpenters' version of the Academy Award nominated title song from the 1971 film Bless the Beasts and Children. The album's biggest hit single, Top of the World (No. 1, Hot 100), was not issued until over a year after the album's release. The Carpenters' treatment of the much-covered Paul Williams/Roger Nichols composition I Won't Last a Day Without You (No. 11, Hot 100) also got a belated single release in 1974.
