Item description

COMING OUT By David Harris and Joan Baez Harris, Photographs by Bob Finch 8.5" x 11", 96 page square bound trade paperback, A Pocket Books Giant, ISBN # 0-671-78544-3, Unstated printing (1st), Copyright November,1971 "On March 15, 1971, David Harris was paroled. He had served twenty months of a three year sentence for refusing induction into the armed forces. In and out of prison David and Joan and others like them are giving birth to a non-violent revolution." David Harris was a central figure in the anti-Vietnam War movement. As a draft resister and conscientious objector, he refused to serve in the military and actively protested against the war. Harris believed that the war was unjust and saw it as his duty to take a stand against it. His activism led to his arrest and subsequent imprisonment, making him a symbol of resistance against the war. Joan Baez, on the other hand, used her music as a powerful tool for activism. With her hauntingly beautiful voice and lyrics that resonated with the struggles of the time, Baez became one of the most influential voices of the folk music revival. She sang about civil rights, pacifism, and the need for social change. Baez?s music resonated deeply with audiences, inspiring them to question the status quo and fight for justice. It was in 1968, during Harris?s imprisonment, that he and Baez crossed paths. Baez had been a prominent supporter of non-violent resistance and had already formed a strong bond with the anti-war movement. She visited Harris in prison, and their connection grew from there. Despite their different paths to activism, they found common ground in their shared desire for a better world. Their relationship blossomed amidst the chaos of the anti-war movement. Their love story became intertwined with their activism, as they attended protests and rallies together. Harris?s imprisonment became a symbol of the injustice of the war, and Baez used her platform to raise awareness about his case. Their bond illustrated the power of love and unity in the face of adversity, inspiring many others to take action. The book is complete and in VERY GOOD condition with some overall wear mainly to the cover which has a stain and some paper loss along the bottom part of the spine on the front and back covers.
