The album is historically significant for its lead single, Mack the Knife, which became a massive hit, topping the Billboard Hot 100 for nine weeks and winning the Grammy for Record of the Year in 1960. Darin's swinging rendition of the Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht song from The Threepenny Opera transformed it into a pop standard, cementing his status as a major star. Another notable hit from the album is Beyond the Sea, which peaked at No. 6 on the Hot 100 and remains a timeless classic. The album's success marked a pivotal moment in Darin's career, bridging traditional pop with the emerging rock 'n' roll era.
