BJORN WIINBLAD "Papagino -The Magic Flute" Original Vintage 1970s Framed Gallery Print Framed in Metal and Glass - 25 in. x 20 in. Excellent Vintage Condition (see photos) Email with any questions....thank you. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BJORN WIINBLAD (1918-2006): Bjørn Wiinblad was a celebrated twentieth century Danish painter and illustrator. Besides painting, he also used to design and make artwork on the ceramics, silver and bronze and was a textile and graphic artist. He was known for his meticulously detailed work. Moreover, his work was displayed across the globe in a number of countries, United States, Japan, Australia, Canada and several European counties. On September 20, 1918, Bjørn Wiinblad was born in Copenhagen. From a very young age he displayed an unprecedented artistic virtuosity. At the age of seventeen he took up an internship as a typographer. However, he soon found himself conflicted as he wanted to pursue the path of a creative artist. He received his fine art education from the Graphic Programme at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. While most Danish artists stuck to the roots and conventional style, Wiinblad adopted an innovative style bold and unique at its center. His career was brimming with paramount projects he did for multifarious international organizations. He got affiliated with the United States Embassy for poster designing. His posters showcased an array of subjects, including activities in Denmark, Miami’s New World Symphony Orchestra academy, the New World Symphony Orchestra academy and the famous Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen. Wiinblad possessed an inquisitive nature which facilitated him in drawing inspiration from a wide range of objects. Additionally, it also encouraged him to experiment his artistic vision on a variety of platforms including tapestries, hotel interiors, ceramics, cutlery, fabrics and other interesting objects. His textile work was modeled for costumes for a number of stage presentations and ballet performances. One distinctive feature of Wiinblad’s work was dressed in vaguely 19th-century costume, round-faced and whimsical subjects. His paintings would often surround the subject of his work with natural elements, like extraordinary trees, floral work and vines. His work is noted for its highly saturated colours giving off psychedelic vibe which was supplied by use of metallic gold and silver hues. Wiinblad offered his illustration services to a fellow Dane as well. He illustrated the “The Swineherd” by Hans Christian Andersen, which won a prize. Subsequently, this illustration of his work was adapted into a short animated film. Wiinblad’s other projects includes designing for a porcelain company, Rosenthal. One of the dinnerware designs, Romance (Romanze), was his characteristic design given its meticulous decoration and fine detailing. Nymolle, a Danish pottery also employed his service for ceramic pieces. Furthermore, museums across the world have his work on display including, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, Stockholm’s National Museum and London’s Victoria and Albert Museum. The tapestries and large ceramics he designed are still used in American and Japanese hotels. The real estate developer from Dallas, Texas, commissioned him to design five enormous Scheherazade tapestries for the Dallas International Apparel Mart. They were displayed for the span of three decades until the building was closed. In 1985, he was given the title of the Man of the Year in New York for his generous contribution to the world of art. Among other prestigious accolades, in 1995, Wiinblad received Cultural Prize from the American-Scandinavian Foundation. He aspired to bring light to Danish traditional style by giving free rein to his creative zest. Regardless of his medium of art he chose to work on, his signature style was immediately recognized for its novelty and meticulousness. --- Email or Text any Questions.....thank you.
