The approximately size is: outside of ring measures 6 1/2 inches. Circa 1983. I do not know the history of this because it's from an estate. The plastic covering of the box is torn but the item has never been used and it's still shiny new looking. Please see pictures for more accurate detailing feel free to ask questions.
