Item description

Vintage orignal 7.25 x 9.5 in. US double-weight matte photograph of silent film actor and subsequent casting director ANTRIM SHORT c.1918. He is depicted in an interior publicity shot by the Evans Studio of Los Angeles. This photograph was signed in white ink by Antrim Short ("Sincerely - Antrim Short"). It is in very fine condition with a small chip on the tip of the top left corner. There are no pinholes, tears, creases, stains, or other flaws. Silent Cinema Inc. (the seller here) guarantees the authenticity of Antrim Short's signature. Antrim Short was born on July 11, 1900 in Cincinnati, Ohio, as Mark Antrim Short. He was a juvenile lead in silent films with the Biograph Company from 1912. Later, he was known for Tom Sawyer (1917), The Flirt (1916), and Huck and Tom(1918). He was married to Frances Morris; the brother of actresses Gertrude Short and Florence Short; the son of actor Lew Short and actress Estelle Short; and a cousin of actress Blanche Sweet. Short was a founding member of the Screen Actors Guild. After being reduced to playing bit parts in talkies, he became a casting director for Goldwyn, Republic, and Universal and established his own talent agency in 1947. He died on November 24, 1972 in Los Angeles, California.
