Abattant is a term used to describe a drop down flap used as a desk with concealed drawers and shelves. It is inlaid wood and hand painted black and gold. It has a rose marble top. This secretary is French Empire style from the early 1900s. It is tall and shallow to fit against the wall and goes back to a time of writing on parchment paper. there are slight minor scratches consistent with age.
