Antique Indonesian Style Standing Bronze Javanese 16-Arm Shiva Statue - 32cm/13" Measures ? (Height) 32cm/13? An Indonesian (Java) standing Shiva in 13th century Majapahit style. Shiva is stood on a round lotus petal pedestal. He is dressed in a simple robe, with a sash tied around his waist and is wearing a number of pieces of ornate jewellery, including crown and earrings. The crescent moon is shown on the side of the Lord's head as an ornament. The waxing and waning phenomenon of the moon symbolises the time cycle through which creation evolves from the beginning to the end. Since Shiva is the Eternal Reality, He is beyond time. Thus, the crescent moon is only one of His ornaments. The Trilochana of Shiva can be seen on his forehead - the Three-Eyed Lord. It is the eye of wisdom, free from ?Maya?, the illusion, and duality of life. It is also believed to be the source of his untamed energy. As the destroyer, Shiva is regarded as limitless, transcendent and unchanging. Shiva is also regarded as the patron god of yoga, meditation and arts. Shiva is part of the Hindu holy trimurti which includes Brahma and Vishnu Here he has 16 arms spread out like the rays of the sun each holding a bell, double dorje, disc, a knife, a string of mala beads, fly whisk, trident, elephant goad, club and a flower with his right hand raised in the vitarka mudra of teaching. A Kalasha resides at the feet of Shiva. The kalasha is considered a symbol of abundance and "source of life" in the Vedas. It is referred to as "overflowing full vase" in the Vedas.
