Item description

Bates, James Gildea Walker (B. G. W.) Lake Meyers Kioto pattern dinnerware. This late Victorian era pattern is an example of the Aesthetic Movement, a Victorian design style inspired by the opening of Japan to the West and characterized by the use of natural elements in the pattern and the banding of the patterning by geometric shapes and borders. This pattern was produced around 1886 in the Staffordshire region of England. The ware uses a heavy ironstone type ceramic base, with a Transferware design, and hand applied color to give the items that polychrome effect. Pre-owned, good condition no cracks or chips. Some items show some crazing, molded in irregularities, or small losses to the applied polychrome colors on top of the transferware pattern.
