Item description

Set of five print/plate engravings used in publication 'Mental Illness Considered from Medical, Hygenic and Legal Aspects' by Jean Etienne Dominique Esquirol and published by JB Tircher, I believe in 1838. Outside dimensions: 11" x 14", printed area is 6" x 9". Plate I: Lypemaniaque. Plate II: Lypomaniaque. Plate III: Demonomaniaque. Plate IV: Maniaque. Plate V: Alienes En Demence I found some examples of the later plates in volume 2 of this publication but I am thinking these were used in volume 1 which I was unable to find online. Ambroise Tardieu was a French cartographer, engraver and publicist. All of the examples from this collection that I have found are being sold as photo copies of an original. These plates are in pretty good condition. There is some yellowing of the paper stock, but it is even and expected. There are corner bends and some rumpling on the sides but the printed areas are in excellent condition and they have wide margins. They would show beautifully framed and matted. I will consider international shipping.
