This is a very nice collectible ethnographic relic imported from the Makonde tribe of Tanzania. It is one of their traditional ancestral tree of life carvings made from ebony wood polished to a beautiful sheen. Various spirits can be seen serving a greater figure whose face is enveloped in what appears to be a snake.
