300 Sakurajima Mammoth Daikon Seeds The Sakurajima radish or Sakurajima daikon is a special cultivar of the Japanese radish named for its original place of cultivation, the former island of Sakurajima in Japan's Kagoshima Prefecture. It is the biggest radish variety in the world. Its regular weight is about 6 kilograms (13 lb), although big ones can be as much as 27 kg (60 lb). The largest have reached 100 pounds It grows as large as 50 cm (20 in) in diameter. It is also sometimes known in Japanese as shimadekon "island daikon"). Used for pickling and cooking, this giant originated in the very southern tip of Japan Sakurajima region. Although it does not store well, the inner core remains crisp and juicy, even if the outer part becomes pithy. Used for pickling and cooking Cultivation: Prepare fertile, well-drained soil. Sow seeds in late summer in a warm, sunny location. Keep soil moist. Fertilize as needed. Harvest when roots are approximately 10" in diameter for eating. Maturity: Approx. 80-90 days Planting season: Late summer
