Mance Post (2007)
Hermance Berendina (Mance) Post ( Amsterdam , January 11, 1925 ? Amsterdam, December 2, 2013 ) was a Dutch illustrator . Together with Fiep Westendorp , Jenny Dalenoord and Alfons van Heusden, Post was one of the first illustrators to specialize in children's books. [1] She would become a defining illustrator of post-war children's literature. [2] With her illustrations, she has given a face to Madelief, the children's book hero of Guus Kuijer . As an illustrator, Post continued to innovate throughout her life. At an advanced age she gave shape to the - now classic - images of the animals in the philosophical animal stories of Toon Tellegen . In 2007, Mance Post received the Max Velthuijs Prize , a triennial oeuvre prize for Dutch illustrators of children's books. She was the first illustrator to receive this award
