All the Nichiren sects of this Buddhism venerate the founder 13th century priest known as Nichiren Daishonin (Nichiren Shonin in some sects). They focus their prayers towards the scroll and chant the words Nam Myoho Renge Kyo (some sects say Namu followed by Myoho Renge Kyo). The scroll measures approx: 21.5 inches by 54.5 inches. The scroll offered here is from 1960 version of the Nichiren mandala issued by the Nichiren Shu branch of Nichiren Buddhism. It commemorates the 700th Anniversary of what is known in history as The Matsubagayatsu Persecution against Nichiren.
