Pair Royal Haeger Art Decor Pheasant Birds Figurines Pastel Glazed Porcelain Flamboyant 1940's art pottery Hand Painted in pinks and blues - also called Mauve and Agate Graceful long tails These are vintage - belonging to my husband's grandma Art Decor style Some imperfections... On the bird with the tail up...the very tip of her beak is chipped. There is also a small chip along the edge of the base. On the bird with the tail down...the end of her tail was broken off and badly repaired Overall awesome vintage condition Hollow open bases decorated with roses History....During this 1940's period, designer Royal Hickman was bringing his own very special, highly-stylized techniques to Haeger's corner of the pottery world. This pheasant duo is a fine example of Hickman's glaze creations, done in what's known as Mauve Agate. The heads, bodies, and long, elaborate tails of both birds wear a solid shade of pink (mauve) glaze. The magic of color, however, is present on their wings, chests, and the intricate bush-like bases on which they're standing: a graceful swirling of absolutely beautiful pastel glazes in shades from seafoam green to aqua, blue to periwinkle, hinting at purple. Cloudy, with almost an opalescent quality. Glaze is shiny and lustrous. No markings found but identified as Royal Haeger by Royal Hickman, circa early 1940's. Bird with high tail measures 13" long (tail to head), 11 3/4" high to top of tail. Low tail bird measures 15" long (tail to beak), 7" high to top of tail. Both birds measure approx. 5" wide across "bush" bases. Awesome home decor RARE - hard to find these pieces
