This antique 1917 Public Grammar School Diploma was awarded to Evelyn Jennie Anderson in Valley Cottage, New York. Two black and white photographs are included: A picture of an elementary school class with their teacher is marked "Evelyn" on the reverse A picture of the graduating class has a handwritten note on the reverse that says "8th grade graduation" . This same image appears on the New York Heritage digital collection website identified as: "Group of girls students with flowers. Back row, from left to right: Helen Raffo, Miss Castle (teacher), EVELYN ANDERSON, T.M.S., and Nan Huffman. Front row, from left to right: Mary Pascalli and Emma Kess." It was mounted by Terhune art studio in Havershaw, NY. Both photos measures 8" x 10" with mat The diploma measures 14" x 17" and has a seal with ribbon (the blue ribbon is disconnected from years of folding) Evelyn Jennie Anderson was born in 1903 to Swedish immigrants Carl Ludwig Anderson (1872-1959) and Anna Louisa Anderson (1868-1932). She married Earle Ledyard Polhemus on September 20, 1931. The had 2 children: Theodore Ryley Polhemus (Feb 21, 1936 - Nov 6, 1968) and Janice Bernston Polhemus Jessup (Dec 21, 1933 - May 31, 2024). Evelyn and her husband are buried at Oak Hill Cemetary in Nyack, Rockland County, New York.
