Additional Information The Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railroad system was first chartered in 1859 as settlements across the American West increased the need for an efficient solution to the vast expanses that characterized the landscape. By 1873 the line had reached the Kansas and Colorado border, and by 1883 the railroad had become a primary freight provider across the West. Despite being chartered to service Santa Fe, the original line bypassed the city until a branch line was completed in Lamy, eighteen miles to the South, in 1880. The line became an iconic route during the early parts of the twentieth century and was known for its passenger service and was one of the first to operate dining cars with full-service food offerings. This stunning depiction captures the rail line in a period of significant and historical transformation as the nation developed and settled in the harsh environments across the Southwest. Mountainous terrain the sheer size of the region made traversing the area challenging with the transportation methods of the time. Atchison?s location on the Missouri River made it an ideal starting point for passengers and goods alike en route to the West. Though New Mexico would not be admitted to the Union until it achieved statehood in 1912, Santa Fe remained a thriving city and became the Capital. This is an authentic piece of American cartographical history with a unique aesthetic and distinctive style. Railroad maps were both practical as guides and marketing materials during the nineteenth century. Our museum quality giclee print comes printed with archival ink on premium heavyweight matte paper. Shipped in a sturdy cardboard tube your print will arrive ready to be framed. This eye-catching vintage map reproduction print makes the perfect gift for anyone that loves history and imagery.
