Additional Information Produced and published by the prolific Merchants Lithographing Company, this stunning birds eye perspective bears a unique aesthetic and distinctive style that immediately transports the viewer back in time, creating an indelible link between that present and past. Founder ES Glover produced numerous birds eye perspectives throughout the West Coast, capturing notable features that served as marketing materials for cities to attract industrialists and workers alike. Local businesses and residents displayed these illustrations in a show of civic pride as well. Olympia had experienced a population boom by the late nineteenth century and was one of the busiest ports in the Northwest. It would take another decade following this publication for Washington to achieve statehood, and Olympia became the State Capital. Plans to complete the Northern Pacific Railroad were diverted to Tacoma from Olympia in 1873. Following this loss, residents raised money and built their own connection to the mainline at Tenino. This connection served as the only rail access to Olympia until 1891 when the Northern Pacific built a spur. Olympia?s economy was spurred primarily by logging and fishing and would continue to thrive through the turn of the century. Birds eye perspectives were among the most popular illustrations from the middle of the nineteenth century until the 1920s. Olympia served as a shipping hub allowing for robust import and export trades and establishing a unique community comprised of a diverse range of immigrants from across Western Europe and Scandinavia who built thriving neighborhoods that exist to this day. Our museum quality giclee print comes printed with archival ink on premium heavyweight matte paper. Shipped in a sturdy cardboard tube your print will arrive ready to be framed. This eye-catching vintage map reproduction print makes the perfect gift for anyone that loves history and imagery.
