Additional Information Located on the south bend of the Minnesota River, Shakopee remained isolated mainly from more metropolitan areas of Minnesota until the 1960s, when its geographic proximity to the Minneapolis-Saint metroplex Paul led to suburban growth and development. Founded in the nineteenth century as a trading hub, the city facilitated commerce between the river and nearby rail lines at Murphy's Landing. Throughout the nineteenth century, the region remained largely agrarian, with the export of corn and other cereal crops to major markets in Chicago and the Midwest. As economic expansion increased, immigrants from across Northern Europe, Germany, and Ireland who established communities along cultural lines, many of which exist to this day. This bird's eye perspective was illustrated and published by prolific mapmaker Albert Ruger and his Chicago Lithographing Company. Ruger was among a handful of illustrators who produced more than half of all the known bird's eye perspectives. This style bears a unique aesthetic and distinctive style that immediately transports the viewer back in time, creating an indelible bond between the past and present. These illustrations served as marketing materials that featured prominent civic features to attract residents and merchants alike; due to this fact, they often embellish notable features with full harbors, busy streets, and speeding trains. This depiction shows the city in its early years as it began to be transformed by thriving economic markets in Minneapolis-Saint Paul. However, Shakopee retained its pastoral beauty and quaint culture, with a historic downtown and culture that blends European traditions. Our museum quality giclee print comes printed with archival ink on premium heavyweight matte paper. Shipped in a sturdy cardboard tube your print will arrive ready to be framed. This eye-catching vintage map reproduction print makes the perfect gift for anyone that loves history and imagery.
