Colton produced numerous maps, including immigrant guides, railroad lines, atlases, and large wall maps. This map was published in the same year as the outbreak of her American Civil War and featured all military forts and outposts. The war began at 4:30 am on April 12, 1861, at the Battle of Fort Sumter when confederate General Pierre Beauregard began an artillery onslaught.
