My timer adds a new dimension to automobile special effects such as the Gemmy Car Buddy (TM) inflatables. I designed this for my own use. I bought a Gemmy inflatable for my car. It will be parked in front of our townhouse on Halloween night. I really like the surprise effect of having an inflatable in the car. However I thought I could improve on a static display if I could find a way to turn if off and on automatically. This timer has the following features: * Cycles off and on to add a surprise effect. * Cycling power reduces average power consumption and battery drain by nearly 30% (default settings). * Shuts off after 3 hours to minimize battery drain should you forget to unplug the special effects device from your car. The TEBR 12 Volt car effects display timer plugs into your car’s power outlet and your display device or inflatable plugs into the timer. I preset the timer for 7 seconds on followed by 5 seconds off cycling repeatedly for 3 hours. At that time the display or inflatable is turned off. The display timer will continue to draw minimal current, but your battery is largely protected since the current draw drops to less than 0.020 amps ( 20 milliamps) once Auto Off has engaged. Please give me the chance to make things right! ——— Use and Operation Guide Excerpt: 12 volt car effects display timer (Complete Instructions including advanced programing are included) The TEBR 12 volt car effects timer is meant to control lighting, inflatables, or other special effects devices used in an automobile environment. It will control power to any 12 volt accessory that connects to a standard auto power outlet (e.g. Cigar Lighter style outlet) and draws 10 amps or less (120 watts). Power rating for the device to be controlled must be checked before operation. Default operation of the unit is pre-programmed as follows: * ON time 7 seconds * OFF time 5 seconds * Auto Off duration 3 hours (900 cycles @ 12 seconds per cycle) Installation and operation 1. Install your automotive inflatable or lighting effect paying careful attention to its user manual. 2. Test your automotive inflatable or lighting effect by plugging it into a power outlet in the vehicle. Note that some vehicle power outlets are continuously powered while some require that the key be in the “accessory” or “on” position. Consult vehicle owner’s manual for details. Some cars will have both types of outlets. 3. If the inflatable or display has a power switch, put it in the “On” position. Observe that the display is operating as it should. Leave in On position. 4. Once correct operation has been confirmed, disconnect the device to be controlled from the power outlet and plug the car effects timer into the power outlet. Now plug your inflatable or effects device into the timer’s socket. 5. As soon as the TEBR 12 volt effects timer is connected to a working 12 volt power outlet it will begin cycling power on and off according to its programming (see above). The display will count down the seconds for the on period (displayed as OP) then a click, and then count down the seconds for the off time (displayed as CL) then another click. This cycle will continue for the duration programed. See above for the default settings. 6. Once the full programmed duration (number of cycles) has been reached, the display timer will shut off your inflatable or display.* This will greatly reduce power consumption from your car battery. If the car is not to be used for longer than 12 hours it is recommended that the display timer be unplugged to reduce battery drain. 7. Once the programed duration (default 3 hours) the display timer can be reset by unplugging it from the power outlet and plugging it back in (or, for power outlets controlled by the ignition switch, by switching power off and back on again). 8. The display backlight will remain illuminated for approximately 5 minutes after power is first connected. It will then remain off until power is removed and restored, or any front panel button is pressed. 9. Disconnect the display timer from the power outlet if it will be left idle for more than 6 hours. Use with inflatables This timer was originally created for use with the seller’s Gemmy Grim Reaper Car Buddy (TM) Inflatable. In order for the inflatable to deflate sufficiently to provide a “surprise” effect when re-inflated, the zipper at the base of the inflatable was opened approximately 1.5 inches. You should feel free to experiment with the zipper on your inflatable for proper effect. Opening the zipper further allows for faster deflation, but means it takes longer to fully re-inflate, if at all. It is strongly recommended that this zipper adjustment be tried before changing the programming of the car effects display timer. Exact positioning on the seat, and use of the seat belt also play a role in optimizing the effect. The goal is for the head to nod forward (or collapse backwards) so that when it re-inflates the face suddenly becomes visible to the surprise of onlookers. NOTE: When the display timer and inflatable are first powered on it will take several cycles (3-4) before the inflatable fully inflates during an on period.
