Item description

Vintage original 8x10 in. US single-weight glossy photograph from the 1940's crime drama/romance, YOU CAN'T ESCAPE FOREVER, released in 1942 by Warner Bros. and directed by Jo Graham. When Laurie goes to the execution of Varney and faints, she does not know that Varney gets a full pardon minutes before he fries. She calls in a story about his death and gets transferred to the Bewildered Heart Column of Prudence Maddox. When Mitch writes a story about Greer murdering Crowder that he cannot prove, he gets transferred from editor to Prudence Maddox. He makes Prudence very profitable for the paper, but the only way he can get the job of editor back, is to prove that Greer is a crook. The cast includes George Brent, Brenda Marshall, Gene Lockhart, Roscoe Karns, Eduardo Ciannelli, Paul Harvey, Edith Barrett, and Erville Alderson. Tge image features an interior studio publicity shot of the film's star, George Brent (as Steve Mitchell), talking on a candlestick telephone with 5 other candlestick phones around him. It is in fine+ condition with varying signs of light wear on the corners and several small diagonal creases in the upper right background area. There are no pinholes, tears, stains, writing, or other flaws. When George Brent runs into Charles Halton, whose character is called Gates, he says, "Greetings, Gates." This is a play on "Greetings, gate," a hipster phrase of the time, which Brent is obviously saying to annoy Gates, who is very old-fashioned and fussy. Director of photographer James Van Trees was given on-screen credit when he substituted for Tony Gaudio, who had a bad case of flu.
