Item description
Vintage original 7.75 x 11 in. softcover photo-illustrated program for a special one-day screening of the classic 1920's silent film war drama/romance, WINGS, released in 1927 by Paramount Pictures and directed by William A. Wellman. Based upon a story by John Monk Saunders, two young men, one rich (Richard Arlen), one middle class (Charles "Buddy" Rogers), who are in love with the same woman (Clara Bow), become fighter pilots in World War I.
This beautiful softcover program was high-quality printed for a special one-day screening as an annual benefit for the Catalina Island Museum Silent Film Benefit with live musical accompaniment on their theater organ. This was the Museum's 25th benefit held in 2012 and the program consists of 40 pages with photographic illustrations from the film and various local advertisements. The back cover depicts a portion of one of the film's original one-sheet posters. The outer covers are printed on a thicker matte stock that is very attractive. It is in very fine condition without any tears, stains, creases, writing, or other flaws.
Wings has a very important place in American film history, as it was the recipient of the very first "Best Picture" Academy Award. Director Wellman's son, William Wellman Jr., was on hand to sign copies of his book, The Man and His Wings, about his father and the making of this classic silent film.
