MEGAMOUTH SHARK
The megamouth shark (Megachasma pelagios) is a species of deepwater shark. Rarely seen by humans, its average measurement is around 5.2 m (17 ft) long and is the smallest of the three extant filter-feeding sharks alongside the relatively larger whale shark and basking shark. Since its discovery in 1976, fewer than 100 specimens have been observed or caught. Like the other two planktivorous sharks, it swims with its mouth wide open, filtering water for plankton and jellyfish. It is recognizable from its large head with rubbery lips. The megamouth is so unlike any other type of shark that it is usually considered to be the sole extant species in the family Megachasmidae, though some scientists have suggested it may belong in the family Cetorhinidae.
Only 100+ sightings since the 1976 (Navy ship pulled one up from the depths, caught in its equipment)
THIS JAW CAN BE LEGALLY SHIPPED WORLDWIDE, due to the fact that it is "data deficient" (i.e. not enough is known about the numbers and distribution)
THESE SHARKS ARE NOT CAUGHT FOR THEIR JAWS. In fact Megamouth shark are generally bycatch as they are a deepwater fish that are not a target for fishermen to catch. When they pull up the net, the shark may be dead and can't be released back to the ocean, so it is generally eaten and rarely is the jaw kept.
We do not support sport fishing, illegal taking of sharks, we don't even eat in restaurants that serve Shark Fin soup due to the cruel and wasteful nature of shark finning. We do not catch sharks ourselves.
