Vintage original 3.5 x 5.5 in. signed German postcard depicting the beautiful German-born silent film actress, LISSY ARNA. Printed by Ross Verlag of Germany, she is depicted in a close interior shot wearing a dark dress with a large strand of pearls. This postcard was boldly signed in black ink by Lissy Arna during the 1920's. It is in fine+ condition with two small creases around her name in the bottom border and a 0.25 in. diagonal crease on the bottom right corner. There are no pinholes, tears, stains, or other flaws and her inscription and signature are extremely fresh and vibrant. Lissy Arna was born on December 20, 1900 in Berlin, Germany as Elisabeth Arndt. She was an actress, known for The Squeeker (1931), Under the Lantern (1928) and Ein Unsichtbarer geht durch die Stadt (1933). She died on January 22, 1964 in Berlin. A dark-haired, exotic femme fatale of German silents, she was loaned out to Hollywood in 1930 to appear in German-language versions of American films (under the direction of William Dieterle). The experience did not lead to major offers from the big studios and she returned home after only a year. She was unable to repeat her earlier popularity during the sound era and her career declined, though she still appeared in supporting roles for the remainder of the 1930's. In 1939, she married a doctor, Hanns Schwarz, and lived with him till his death in Venezuela.
